INTUMESCENT
FIRE BLOCKS

Intumescent fire blocks are a convenient way to maintain the fire integrity of a wall or door that has been cut away to
permit the transfer of air from one space to another. It is
recommended that they are supported on both sides by a
grille of some description and that they are only used in
situations were access is easy for cleaning and replacement, when necessary.

Square or rectangular.
Code 0474. 34mm thick 2 hour rated fire block.
Square or Rectangular.
Code 0472. 34mm thick 1 hour rated fire block.
Square or rectangular.
Code 0473. 22mm thick 1/2 hour rated fire block.
Square or rectangular.
Code 0475. Circular fire block, 1/2 hour rated.
Code 0476. Circular fire block,1hour rated.
Code 0477. Circular fire block, 2 hour rated.

Standard Specification

SIZES
Square or rectangular available in 50mm increments from 100mm to 600mm on the nominal length and height. Circular available to fit standard spiral duct sizes from 100mm to 600mm diameter.

CONSTRUCTION
Square or rectangular. Manufactured from
intumescent material with an outer casing of formed sheet steel. The 2 & 4 hour solid blocks have wire mesh to the front & back.
Circular. Manufactured from intumescent material with a circular outer casing in sheet steel.

FIXINGS
Square or rectangular. It is important that they are a reasonably tight fit in the aperture and are supported on either side by a grille. In cases where the fire block is the same thickness as the door or wall or, if it is thinner than the door, but still too thick to permit the addition of a conventional transfer grille e.g. Code 0104 each side, a surface mounted grille should be used on one or both sides, e.g. Code 0204 on each side or 1 x Code 0204 and 1 x Code 0371.
Circular. The spigot either side of the fire block is designed to fit into standard spiral ducting. It should be secured by riveting through both sets of ducting.

PACKAGING
Each fire block is shrink wrapped in polythene with cardboard support to the faces.

PERFORMANCE DATA
IMPORTANT INFORMATION

The fire blocks have been tested to BS476 parts 20 and 22. Fire blocks would normally be mounted in the vertical. If they are to be mounted in the horizontal, the 2 hour rated model (Code 0474 or Code 0477) must be used so that the mesh gives support to the intumescent material. It is not important which way a block is installed in the vertical position.

ORDERING DETAILS

• The code for the basic fire block should have 13 digits.
See page 1.
• Please always give the length first, then the height.

EXAMPLE:
A one hour fire rated block would be coded - 0472/00200/0200.
