PAN ADAPTORS, SIDE ENTRY PLENUM BOXES
AND HEADER BOXES

The range of sheet metal boxes that we manufacture is designed to match the performance of our products and
provide a satisfactory fit. A comprehensive range of
non-fibrous materials are available for thermal and/or acoustic insulation on the inside of the boxes, if required. The standard models will cover most applications but we can design boxes with non-standard heights where there
is limited space in the cavity or with different spigot arrangements, if the standard arrangement is not suitable. The standard range with relevant codes are shown on the following pages, grouped by product type.

DESCRIPTIONS •
Pan adaptors. A pan adaptor is a shallow, top entry box that is usually used on extract systems. They can be used on supply grilles and diffusers but care must be taken to make sure that the lead in to the pan is straight and that the spigot size is not less than 50mm smaller than the nominal size of the pan. The only exception to this can be where the reduced spigot size is specifically being used to blank an oversized grille or diffuser, such as a tile replacer, in order to stop it dumping cold air. However, we would recommend the use of blanking plates in this situation rather than a shallow pan.

Plenum boxes. The standard has a side entry spigot. The side entry box needs to have sufficient height to turn the air flow through 90° and enable the air to expand to the neck dimension as evenly as possible in order to
minimise uneven air distribution over the face of the grille or diffuser.

Header box. Header boxes are usually side entry although we do make them top entry, if required.
By definition, header boxes are usually used on a linear run of diffuser where more than one box supplies or extracts from the run. Consequently, the box has to be manufactured with apertures in the end plates so that the upper part of the diffuser can run through the box. The relationship between the length, width and height of the box is critical as is the number and size of spigots.

 
Standard Specification

SIZES
The nominal size is generally the same as the nominal
size of the grille or diffuser to which it is to be fitted.
We manufacture the item with a suitable clearance.

CONSTRUCTION
Manufactured from 0.75mm Zintec coated sheet steel with either spot welded or stitched joints. Insulation, when ordered, is applied to the inside of the box. Thermal insulation is 17mm thick with a vapour seal and the acoustic/thermal insulation is either 10mm or 25mm thick and made from closed cell material that does not require a vapour seal.

FIXINGS
Generally, pan adaptors can be fitted to the product
without the need for independent support unless there is heavy ducting attached to it. However, if they are to be independently supported, it may be advisable to include suspension brackets (Code 0361). Plenum and header boxes should be independently supported i.e. from the slab above. They have a 20mm lip around the top which can be drilled to take suspension rods or wires. If there is insufficient space above the box to enable this, it may be advisable to include suspension brackets (Code 0361).

PACKAGING
Each box is fitted with corner protectors and enclosed in a polythene bag.

ADDITIONAL OR TOP ENTRY SPIGOTS
Please contact head Office if additional or top entry spigots are required on plenum/header boxes, or the recommended configuration of spigots on a header box requires changing.

SUSPENSION BRACKETS
Code 0361. Please specify the number required and location on the box.

QUADRANT DAMPER IN THE SPIGOT
A manual (Code 0483) or cord operated (Code 0484) quadrant damper can be fitted in the spigot.

MATT BLACK INTERNAL FINISH
The internal surfaces of a box can be powder coated matt black. Code 0145 (Matt black).

A plenum box for a 300mm x 300mm nominal size grille, without a flange, side entry, black internals and 200mm diameter spigot with manually operated
quadrant damper would be coded:- 0325/00300/0300/200+0483+0145 (matt black).
